There's always something to be doing!

Updated: May 16, 2021

At the end of May 2019 I was able to have an antibody check for the Dirty Covid (just what I call it!), turns out I made some antibodies YAY! Hopefully this means I have a bit of immunity to it and I won't catch it again........

June and some of July saw me completing my first client's care episode as her midwife but she then asked me to continue weighing her baby on a monthly basis as she needed the reassurance that he was doing well. I took on a new client in a slightly different capacity than a private midwife (woohoooo!) which saw me thinking about my service provision on an ad-hoc basis and looking at my costings. My latest client presentated me with some very complex issues that I had never encountered with any woman I have cared for before, meaning her care needed to involve some wisely chosen multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals enabling her to engage with maternity on a level that suited her.

On the 10th July I developed Dirty Covid symptoms again. I had to leave my hospital shift, I was in tears because of how horrible I felt. I had ALL of the same symptoms including the high temperature and feeling generally awful apart from the raw throat. My GP told me it was probably flu. Hmmmmmm, it was July - fairly warm, not really flu season...... I was not convinced. I mean, I didn't think it was Covid again, because I had antibodies, and there had only been a few reported cases of people testing positive again. On the evening I felt ill, I took the kids to the showground for our drive through swabs. All came back negative. I felt on and off terrible for the next couple of weeks and even ordered myself yet another test - STILL negative!!! Another few more days and I felt ready to be back on shift.

Following this stint of feeling unwell again (and so VERY Covid-like), I started to look into information about other people who had had Covid and how they were having ongoing symtpoms. It took 3.5 months for my sense of smell to return (which was great for my hayfever lol), and for that duration I felt a ridiculous level of fatigue that would come and go then hit me like a bus again. Why was I throwing a temperature and having repeat symptoms? Whenever I've had a cold in the past, this does not happen. I've never had the flu before (and I'm always vaccinated), so what was occurring? (This can ONLY be said in the style of Nessa from Gavin & Stacey lol!) Maybe I am one of these Covid long haulers I'd been reading about. Good grief! Could I be THAT flaming unlucky? Who knows!?!?! When I feel horrible, it's quite debilitating and means I can't dedicate 100% of myself to caring for patients. I can't wake properly, I can't function, I am bed-bound between 1-2 days. Not fun, even in this pandemic :(

Well, into August and I’m still quietly hassling Kayleigh for her feedback but she continues to resist hehehe. She tells me she just does not get the time to breathe sometimes - I do remember that feeling allllllll those years ago when I first became a mum.....and the second time!

I was also treated to some hotel time with a friend - quite refreshing to be on the receiving end of treats :) and the delightful company of Winston - my best mates doggo!

Kerrie and I also got to go out between the lockdowns too - the Edinborough Raspberry Gin and Lemonade was A W E SO M E!!!!
